Modern Apprentices Take The Procurement Route

Procurement and supply chain in the NHS is the focus for two modern apprentices who will join NHS Highland next month.
Neil Stewart, head of procurement at NHS Highland explained that with 2018 being the year of the young people it is fitting that procurement is supporting youth employment with the appointment of Jack Watson and Harry Zagorski as the procurement teams first ever modern apprentices.
“Modern apprenticeships help employers to develop their workforce by training new staff and upskilling existing employees.
“In procurement we have identified an opportunity to not only grow our own talent with the appointment of Jack and Harry but also raise the profile of procurement as a career choice that some maybe would not have thought of previously.
“This is the first time we have had modern apprentices join the procurement team.
“Historically they would go to a trade position such as a joiner or an electrician.
“I’m delighted we’ve been able to offer these opportunities in our team and am very much looking forward to working with Jack and Harry.”
Jack, 20, from Beauly, will be based within the stores department at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness while learning stores and logistics.
“I’m looking forward to wrapping up college and kicking off a career.”
Harry, 18, from Alness, will be based within the procurement team and learning about procurement.
“I am looking forward to starting something new and expanding my knowledge.”
