Parliament Must Completely Reject EU Withdrawal Bill

By Reporter, The HighLand Times, Tuesday May 15 2018

Scottish Greens co-convener Patrick Harvie MSP (pictured) is urging SNP, Labour and Lib Dem MSPs to stand together against Theresa May & Ruth Davidson’s "devolution demolition squad” ahead of this evening's (15 May) vote on whether to consent to the UK Government’s EU Withdrawal Bill.

Clause 15 (formerly 11) and Schedule 3 of the Bill give the UK Government powers to undermine devolution and make changes to areas of law and policy devolved to Scotland, even if the Scottish Parliament explicitly rejects them.

Patrick Harvie MSP said:

“The Tories have already given up on our European future and now they want MSPs to give up on protecting Scotland’s interests.

“I hope the rest of the Scottish Parliament stands together against Theresa May and Ruth Davidson’s devolution demolition squad.

“Green MSPs will not consent to the UK Government's assault on the powers of the Scottish Parliament but sadly we know that the Tories' understanding of the word 'consent' is a farce, and that they are determined to put a wrecking ball through the devolution settlement regardless.

“We must continue to challenge the extremist Brexit obsessions of Ruth Davidson’s Conservatives, and defend our European future.”
