Corbyn Must Ditch Labour’s Plan for Job Destroying Hard Brexit

By Reporter, The HighLand Times, Saturday May 12 2018

SNP Westminster Leader Ian Blackford (pictured) has called on Jeremy Corbyn to ditch Labour’s backing for a “jobs-destroying” hard Brexit and join the SNP in supporting Scotland and the UK’s continued membership of the single market.

The MP for Ross, Skye and Lochaber, said former Labour leader Lord Kinnock was right to warn Labour were committing a “serious evasion of duty”, and would be “sacrificing thousands” of jobs, by continuing to support extreme Tory plans to drag the UK out of the world’s largest single market, despite the huge damage it would do to the economy.

Commenting, Ian Blackford MP said:

“Labour are letting millions of families down by continuing to back reckless Tory plans for a jobs-destroying hard Brexit - that would make the whole of the UK poorer and worse off.

“By walking hand-in-hand with extreme Tory Brexiteers, as they drag Scotland and the UK out of the world’s largest single market, Labour will be just as culpable for the catastrophic damage to the economy.

“The UK government’s own analysis underlines the devastating impact a hard Brexit would have - sacrificing hundreds of thousands of jobs, and inflicting serious damage to people’s incomes, livelihoods, and living standards for decades to come.

“Short of staying in the EU, as Scotland voted overwhelmingly for, remaining in the single market is the least worst option in order to protect jobs and prosperity, and it is time Labour and the Tories put the interests of the country before their hard Brexit obsession.”
