Scottish Plastic Straw Ban Good News for Our Oceans

By Reporter, The HighLand Times, Monday February 12 2018

Scottish Government leading the way.

Commenting on media reports that the Scottish Government is considering bringing in new legislation to ban plastic straws, Greenpeace spokesperson Stefano Gelmini said:

"Plans for a Scottish ban on plastic straws are good news for our oceans.

"Straws are among the worst examples of the use-once-and-bin plastic threatening our seas.

“They can do real harm to marine life, whether they get stuck up a turtle's nose or in a fish's mouth.

"In most cases, we can simply do without straws, and whenever they're genuinely needed, there are less polluting materials than plastic.

"Scotland has shown bold leadership in tackling plastic waste.

“Now it's time for the UK government to up its game and take real action to protect our oceans from the scourge of throwaway plastic."
