More than 150 vehicles stopped during day of action on the A82.

Road policing officers stopped more than 150 vehicles during a day of action on the A82 on Friday, November 10.

Officers based in the Highlands worked with colleagues in Argyll & Bute and the Northern Safety Camera Partnership to cover the road between Inverness and Crianlarich.

Over the course of the day more than 150 motorists were stopped, with eight speeding offences being detected, two careless driving offences and seven offences relating to documentation and use of vehicles.

One driver will also be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in relation to alleged drink driving.

A total of 21 further drivers were issued with warnings in relation to various offences during the course of the day.

Commenting Sergeant Ewan Calder of the Road Policing Unit said:

"The A82 is a crucial trunk road for local drivers, hauliers, holidaymakers and many others and it is important that the route is kept as safe as it can be.

"This initiative brought together road policing officers based in Fort William, Dingwall and Oban, as well as the Northern Safety Camera Partnership who are based in Tain and Fort William.

"Making use of all these resources, both static and mobile patrols were made along the A82 all aimed at providing a preventative presence as well as taking enforcement action where required.

"This was all in order to ensure road safety, check the road-worthiness of vehicles using the A82 and giving advice on winter road safety.

"We will continue to provide policing resources on the A82 to ensure it is safe for all road users."
