Public Meeting on Vision for Knab Site

By Reporter, The HighLand Times, Friday November 3 2017

Now that the Anderson High School has relocated to the new site at the Staney Hill, work continues to establish the future plans for the Knab site in Lerwick.

On behalf of Shetland Islands Council, 7N Architects are leading a team to develop the Masterplan for the site and will be hosting a public meeting and workshop next week to gather views on the emerging proposals.

The design team are developing a placemaking strategy for the Knab site, based on the Development Brief derived from previous engagement with the community, to create a vibrant, mixed use and sustainable place.

The process of creating the masterplan will involve neighbouring residents and the wider local community, to understand the key issues and to explore ambitions for the site.

Councillor Alastair Cooper, Chair of Development Committee, said:

“We’re keen to hear from anyone with an interest in the future of the Knab site, to help to develop the masterplan, that will also enhance Lerwick.

“The team are looking forward to working with the community to develop a vision that is worthy of this unique site.”

The public meeting will take place in the Assembly Hall of the former Anderson High School on Tuesday 7th November 2017, where there will be an open exhibition from 4-6pm and a workshop from 6.30-8.30pm.
