Highland Council Elects Leaders

The Highland Council has elected Councillor Margaret Davidson (Pictured) as Council Leader at its meeting yesterday, 18 May 2017.
Councillor Alasdair Christie was elected Depute Leader and Councillor Bill Lobban was elected Convener of the Council.
Councillor Maxine Smith was elected Leader of the Opposition.
Councillor Margaret Davidson will lead a coalition Administration of Independent members, Scottish Liberal Democrats and Scottish Labour.
She said:
“I am delighted to be elected Leader once again.
“It is a great privilege to lead the Council and I look forward to working with all the members across the Chamber.
“There are a great many strengths and talents within the Council, both in members and staff and I look forward to working with everyone.”
The next Council meeting will take place on 1 June at which discussions will take place about how the Council will organise its work and where a range of further appointments will be made.
