Glenelg and Arnisdale Development Trust are to benefit from EU funding from the Highland LEADER Programme.

The Wester Ross, Strathpeffer & Lochalsh Local Area Partnership has approved funding of £34,997.50 towards a new community park in Glenelg.

Tina Martin from Glenelg and Arnisdale Development Trust said:

“The existing play area in Glenelg is very popular but no longer fit for purpose as it floods and needs upgrading.

“The grant from LEADER will allow us to create a new play park adjacent to the current play site on land owned by the Trust.

“A number of new innovative pieces of play equipment will be installed for all to enjoy, along with safety surfacing.

“As the park is near Glenelg Brochs, we are excited that the park will include replica brochs seating as well as new interpretation boards to provide information about the Brochs.

“We hope the park will become a visitor attraction and gathering place for local people and visitors to the area.”

The Wester Ross, Strathpeffer & Lochalsh Local Area Partnership has a budget of £506,688 to award to projects in the area by March 2019.

Amy MacDonald, Chair of the Wester Ross, Strathpeffer & Lochalsh Local Area Partnership said:

“LEADER aims to promote economic and community development within rural areas.

“The Local Area Partnership has developed an Action Plan outlining development priorities for the community.

“We are delighted to support this project which contributes towards the delivery of the Plan by developing land owned by the Trust to provide a community facility for local people and visitors to the area.

“The Local Area Partnership can fund a range of projects and we would encourage groups to get in touch with project ideas.

“We can consider projects with costs of £20,000 or above with applicants able to apply for up to 50% of project costs.”
