Sutherland Midwife Named Midwife of The Year

By Reporter, The HighLand Times, Thursday May 10 2018

An NHS Highland midwife has been named midwife of the year at this year’s MaMa Conference.

Frances Arrowsmith (pictured), midwifery team leader in Sutherland, was presented with the award at the conference in Glasgow on Friday 04 May.

The MaMa Conference is the largest independent annual midwifery and maternity conference in the UK, bringing delegates from all parts of the country as well as international audience to Scotland for two days of best practice, personal and professional development and inspirational speakers.

The awards are the highlight of the MaMa Conference celebrating the people who have gone above and beyond in promoting the highest standards of care for all mothers and babies.

Frances has been a midwife for 27 years and, while thrilled to have won, insists she is just happy doing a job she loves.

She said:

"This is such an honour and I have been overwhelmed with all the good wishes from mums and midwives.

“This isn't really about me though.

“It's about the quality of care, commitment and dedication of the team I work with and many other colleagues within NHS Highland.

“I am truly blessed to work with such a great team of midwives and with so many other practitioners within the organisation."
