Comedy Line-Up Announced for Belladrum

By Reporter, The HighLand Times, Tuesday May 8 2018

An award-winning line-up of Scottish comedians have been announced for Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival 2018.

Topping the bill is 2006 Scottish Comedian of the Year Award winner MARK NELSON.

Mark’s mix of dark humour, cutting observations and superb one-liners has seen him firmly established as one of the UK’s biggest-hitting comedy powerhouses.

In 2016 Mark created a series of online clips, The News At 2, for BBC Scotland’s Short Stuffstrand and co-starring his two-year-old daughter.

Featuring topics such as Global Warming, Donald Trump and the Economy, the clips went “viral” and he was commissioned to make more, starting with one on the Brexit turmoil.

Now rebranded The News At 3, he released several more in 2017 with a number of them, including the hilarious Valentine’s Day, again going viral with views in the many millions.

Another subsequent clip released in time for Easter is approaching 70 million views alone.

The popularity of these clips has seen The News At 3 being mentioned in the Scottish Parliament as part of the discussion about a new BBC in Scotland and becoming the biggest social media phenomenon in the BBC’s history with audience engagement now over 100 million views.

Chortle’s 2016 Best Newcomer, DAISY EARL will join in over the weekend.

Since starting stand-up in 2013, she has quickly attracted plaudits and accolades; winning ‘Best New Comedian’ at the Scottish Variety Awards in 2015, and then being crowned ‘Scottish Comedian of the Year’ in the same year, making her the first ever female winner.

Following a sell-out show at the Adelaide Fringe in 2016, Daisy returned to the UK to scoop ‘Best Newcomer’ at the Chortle Live Comedy Awards before performing two further sell-outs runs at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2016 and 2017.

Making his Belladrum debut, CHRIS DINWOODIE is a multiple award-winning magician from Glasgow who combines world class magic with his natural Glaswegian humour to create an amazing and entertaining experience.

The Stand Comedy Club compere and 2016 Scottish Comedy Awards ‘Best Compere’ winner JOE HEENAN will also be joining in alongside the loveable laughing lassie from Largs KIRTSY MORRISON and the 2018 Scottish Comedian of the Year finalist SCOTT CASSIDY, If you enjoy some catchy pop tunes with a little comedy twist, then Scott is your man.

Proceedings will be overseen by compere, the bonafide "comedy-fizz bomb" Ayrshire born comic BILLY KIRKWOOD.

Billy has established himself as one of the United Kingdom's most watchable and versatile acts thanks to his loveable on-stage presence.

His inventive and energetic stand up performances, coupled with a unique ability to make anything funny and an unbridled mischievous streak, have charmed audiences the world over.
